INTRODUCTION TO

GYROTONIC®

EXERCISE

The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® consists of GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® exercises characteristic of three-dimensional movements that focus on the spine and increase the functional capacity of the entire body.
Gyrotonic exercise sequences are composed of spiralling, circular movements which flow together seamlessly in rhythmic repetitions with corresponding breath patterns. Each movement flows into the next allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. These carefully crafted sequences create balance, efficiency, strength and flexibility.

Flowing movements massage the organs. Meridian pathways are targeted to release blocked energy. Connective tissue is conditioned, reshaping the body and making it stronger at the joints where most injuries occur. Breathing patterns increase coordination, endurance and aerobic activity.

Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis exercises help to prevent and recover from injury or surgery as well as prepare the body for high endurance and advanced athletic activities.

SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT
The body is naturally designed to work as one harmonious system, to follow arcing and spiralling paths of motion and to transition from one movement to the next smoothly and efficiently.

The specialized line of Gyrotonic equipment supports these natural movement patterns. Sophisticated adjustments allow Gyrotonic trainers to adapt the equipment to the ideal setting for each person’s unique physique, adapting for things such as height, arm and leg length, natural range of motion and physical ability.

Benefits of this Method

WHY GYROTONIC®?

Benefits & Outcomes

GYROKINESIS®

The beginner classes start with a self-massage and simple breathing patterns to awaken the body. The next focus is on the spine and pelvis. Seated on low stools, the class mobilizes the spine through a series of arching, curling, bending, twisting and spiralling movements. The same movement patterns are expanded to release hip, knee, hamstring, and quadriceps and so on, in all possible directions: front, back, twisting and turning. The corresponding breathing patterns in every movement stimulate the nervous system, open up the energy pathways and oxygenate the blood. The move advanced classes add endurance training to bodies prepared for more strenuous activities. The classes encompass not only sitting but also laying and standing positions.

Horvath’s methodology invigorates and re-educates the body to move with fluidity, relaxation and power.

What is the difference between Gyrotonic exercises and Gyrokinesis exercises?

Gyrotonic exercises are performed on specially designed equipment that adds resistance and support without inhibiting range of motion or speed.

Gyrokinesis exercises are performed using only a stool and mat for seated, standing and lying down positions. A Gyrokinesis class works on the entire body and focuses on 7 natural spinal movements. Breathing patterns and fluidity of postures are emphasized. A Gyrokinesis class appears and feels more like a massage than like traditional yoga or Pilates.

FOR EVERYONE
Gyrotonic exercises can be adapted to fit anyone’s ability from those recovering from injury or living with a disability to elite athletes.
